Dr. Masayo Takahashi is a ophthalmologist who spent 20 years as a retinal surgeon at Kyoto University Hospital. Her involvement in stem cell research dates back to its dawn in the 1990s, positioning her as a long-standing leader in the field. In 2014, she made medical history by conducting the world’s first clinical transplant of iPS cell-derived retinal cells. To fully realize and deliver these treatments to patients, she eventually transitioned into the business sector by founding Gene and Cell therapy companies. Today, she continues to drive innovation from the front lines of industry to bridge the gap between research and clinical application.
