Research PIECES is a Deeptech startup of Biotechnology based in Poitiers. The goals are to understand the Physiology and the Physiopathology of the Nervous System through Research, Development & Treatment, to fight against neurological diseases and to study the impact of the environment on the Central Nervous System (CNS). For that, we provide biological and innovative systems to dissect molecular, cellular and tissular mechanisms in a physiological 3D-living tissue environment. Our 3D-Living Systems allow to generate robust and translatable results, and thus, avoid failing in clinical trial phases. As an alternative to animal models and considered as NAMs (New Approaches Methodologies), they dras<cally reduce the number of animals used in R&D following the principles of the 3Rs. Our models are customized, physiological (versus organoids and Bioprinting), they allow dynamic access to molecular mechanisms (= in vitro), and the access to all cell types simultaneously (= in vivo) by offering a high degree of complexity (CNS), a large scale of analysis, and unparalleled technical complexity. These models can be used at all stages of Early Drug Discovery (screening, toxicity test, etc.), and in many therapeutic areas, as neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, Alzheimer, etc.), cancer (glioblastoma), infectious diseases, etc. These models also allow vectorization and the targeting of small molecules (mRNA, oligonucleotide, etc.). They can also permit to study the environment with the role of pesticides, or endocrine disruptors on the CNS. Our products/services are designed for all the researchers from Academia (CNRS, Inserm, etc.) to Pharmaceutical Industry (CRO, CDMO, etc.), Army (as antidote to neurotoxins), Cosmetics (sensitivity) and animal health (veterinary products).
